These are often fairly inexpensive and offer decent sound quality. Two birds one stone, I also had a hair line fracture (not in the glass) but in the plasma which made all the pixels turn gray and it was spreading. If your phone got wet from humidity or rain, they may be more forgiving. I don't think it's water damage… I have tried your tip four times to no avail. On an iPhone, for example, the microphone and earpiece -- where you hear the person on the other end of a call -- are the same piece of hardware, so damaging I thought I had already broken my new iPhone.
