The LCD and back plate will remove in one piece as they are glued together. Looking at the Wikipedia article now on (a headphone plug), it makes complete sense since the tip is the left-channel, and the lint was apparently preventing the tip from touching the a chunk of  lint was stuck in it and now it is working perfectly. The only way I could temporarily fix it was by dipping a cotton bud in some methylated spirits, and giving the inside of the headphone jack a good rubbing. Called Rogers iPhone support and after trying a million unrelated things they replacement my phone. Resetting the phone seems to do so, but is intermittent. A ribbon connector which you need to slide into its slot , just above where connector 2 slots on .
